Perioral Rejuvenation (Lip Lines)

Advanced structural and laser refinement designed to permanently erase vertical smoker's lines and restore a smooth, beautifully defined lip border.

What Is Perioral Rejuvenation?

The perioral area (the skin surrounding the mouth) is subject to thousands of dynamic muscle contractions every day. Over time, this constant movement, combined with sun damage and natural collagen depletion, creates deep vertical rhytids (often called smoker's lines or lipstick lines) and blurs the sharp vermilion border of the lip.

Perioral Rejuvenation is not a single treatment, but a highly customized, multi-modal architectural strategy. By utilizing deep ablative lasers to resurface the damaged skin, neurotoxins to quiet the hyperactive muscle, and micro-fat grafting to rebuild the underlying structural volume, Dr. Gandhi permanently smooths the canvas of the upper lip and restores a flawless, youthful frame to the mouth.

What Concerns Do Lip Line Treatments Address?

What Concerns Do Lip Line Treatments Address?

  • 01Deep, static vertical lines radiating from the upper and lower lips (smoker's lines)
  • 02Lipstick bleeding or feathering into the surrounding fine lines
  • 03A blunted, flat, or poorly defined vermilion border (the lip edge)
  • 04Loss of volume and structure in the philtral columns (the ridges above the lip)
  • 05A generalized aged, puckered, or weathered appearance to the lower face

Botox Lip Flip vs. Laser Resurfacing

If you are in your 30s and the vertical lines only appear when you actively purse your lips (dynamic lines), a subtle lip flip using Botox will relax the muscle, preventing the lines from forming and gently rolling the upper lip outward.

However, if the lines are permanently etched into your skin even when your face is completely at rest (static lines), Botox is no longer enough. The physical crease in the skin must be eradicated using an ablative laser or a chemical peel to structurally remodel the dermis and create a flat surface.

Botox Lip Flip vs. Laser Resurfacing
The Dr. Gandhi Difference

The Dr. Gandhi Difference

The most common and disastrous approach to deep lip lines is attempting to iron them out by injecting massive amounts of heavy dermal filler directly into the lines. This inevitably results in a stiff, puffy, elongated upper lip.

Dr. Gandhi recognizes that lip lines are a skin texture issue, not just a volume issue. His gold-standard approach avoids heavy fillers entirely. Instead, he utilizes deep Fractional CO2 or Erbium Laser Resurfacing to vaporize the wrinkled skin, forcing the body to regenerate a brand new, baby-smooth surface. If volume is needed, he relies on ultra-fine Nano-Fat grafting to provide rich stem cells without adding heavy, artificial bulk.

Dr. Gandhi's Insider Tip

"You cannot fix damaged skin with a syringe of filler. To truly erase a deep, etched-in line around the mouth, you must aggressively resurface the canvas. The laser does the heavy lifting; the injectables simply provide the finishing polish."

Ablative Laser Resurfacing (CO2/Erbium)

The ultimate solution. Dr. Gandhi applies precise columns of thermal energy to the upper and lower lip area. This vaporizes the old, wrinkled skin and forces the regeneration of tight, flawless new collagen over the course of 7 to 10 days.

Nano-Fat Grafting

A small amount of your own fat is liquefied into a stem-cell-rich serum and injected superficially beneath the lip lines. This does not just fill the line; the stem cells actively repair and thicken the thinning skin from the inside out.

Surgical Dermabrasion

A highly specialized mechanical sanding of the upper lip skin. When performed by a master surgeon, it precisely levels the edges of deep rhytids down to the base of the wrinkle, allowing the skin to heal perfectly flat.

Is laser resurfacing painful?

The mouth area is highly sensitive, so we ensure absolute comfort. We utilize powerful medical-grade topical anesthetics and, if necessary, a targeted dental nerve block so you feel absolutely nothing during the laser procedure.

Will the lines ever come back?

Laser resurfacing permanently resets the clock, but it does not stop time. The new, smooth skin will continue to age naturally. You can drastically prolong your results by using a daily SPF, ceasing all smoking, and utilizing maintenance Botox twice a year.

Will this change the shape of my lips?

No. Perioral rejuvenation focuses strictly on the skin surrounding the lips (the white lip). While restoring the vermilion border will make your lips look beautifully defined, it will not artificially enlarge or alter the fundamental shape of your mouth.

Phase 1: Viral Prophylaxis

If you have ever had a cold sore in your entire life, the heat from a laser or friction from dermabrasion will likely trigger an outbreak. You must start a prescription antiviral medication (like Valtrex) two days prior to treatment.

Phase 2: Melanin Management

Strict sun avoidance is mandatory for 4 weeks prior. Patients with darker skin tones will be prescribed a medical-grade lightening cream to prep the skin and prevent hyperpigmentation post-laser.

Phase 3: Recovery Supplies

Purchase Aquaphor or a clinic-approved occlusive healing ointment, gentle cleansers, and straws. You will need to keep the area constantly coated in ointment and avoid opening your mouth excessively wide during the first few days.

Days 1 to 4

The treated area will be bright red, swollen, and weeping slightly. It will look and feel like a severe sunburn. You must keep the upper lip smothered in healing ointment 24 hours a day and avoid aggressively wiping your mouth after eating.

Days 5 to 7

The skin will begin to crust, turn brown, and actively peel. You must never pick at the peeling skin, as this will cause scarring. The new, baby-pink, line-free skin will slowly emerge from underneath.

Weeks 2 to 4

The peeling completes, and the profound smoothing results are visible. The area may remain slightly pink for a few weeks, which is easily covered with mineral makeup. Obsessive sun protection (SPF 50+) is critical to protect the new, delicate skin.
