The Corner Lip Lift (Standalone)

A rapid, 30-minute procedure performed comfortably under local anesthesia in the clinic. Tiny triangles of skin are removed just above the commissures, and the corners are sutured upward into a neutral position.

Combined with a Bullhorn Lip Lift

For comprehensive rejuvenation, a central Lip Lift (to shorten the philtrum and lift the middle of the lip) is often combined with a Corner Lift. This complete architectural reconstruction addresses the entire length of the mouth for total harmony.

Integration with a Lower Facelift

Often, what appears to be a drooping mouth is actually heavy jowling pushing the corners down. Dr. Gandhi assesses the face dynamically; a Deep Plane Facelift may be recommended to lift the cheek and jowl, which naturally elevates the mouth corners without needing incisions on the lips.

Are the scars visible?

The incisions are placed exactly on the vermilion border-the sharp line where the pink lip meets the facial skin. Because the scar heals directly on this natural color break, it is exceptionally well hidden. Any minor redness during the early healing phases is easily covered with lipstick or concealer.

Will it look like a permanent smile?

No. Dr. Gandhi's aesthetic target is a neutral resting face. The goal is to eliminate the frown, not to create a permanent, unnatural grin. You will look peaceful and approachable when your face is relaxed.

Is it painful?

The procedure is virtually painless. It is performed under local anesthesia, similar to a dental block. During recovery, you will experience a feeling of tightness when opening your mouth, but very little sharp pain.

Phase 1: Viral Prophylaxis

If you have a history of cold sores, you must begin taking an antiviral medication (like Valtrex) two days before the surgery, as any trauma to the lip border can trigger an outbreak that compromises healing.

Phase 2: Medical Optimization

Stop all blood-thinning medications, NSAIDs, fish oils, and green tea extracts two weeks prior. The lips are highly vascular, and preventing excessive bruising is crucial for a fast recovery.

Phase 3: Soft Food Prep

You will not be able to open your mouth excessively wide for the first few days. Prepare a diet of soft, bite-sized foods and acquire straws for drinking to minimize stretching the corners of the mouth.

The First 72 Hours

The corners of the mouth will be swollen and slightly red. You must apply a prescribed antibiotic ointment constantly to keep the tiny sutures lubricated. You must limit talking, avoid laughing aggressively, and cut all food into small pieces to prevent tension on the incisions.

Days 5 to 7

The microscopic sutures are removed in the clinic. The swelling rapidly begins to subside. You may begin wearing a medical-grade concealer or lipstick over the incisions if returning to social or professional settings.

Weeks 2 to 4

The incisions will continue to fade from pink to a flat, imperceptible line. The corners of your mouth will settle beautifully into their new, neutral resting position, completely eradicating the sad or angry expression.
