Neck Lift

A precise structural tightening of the lower face and jawline, eliminating banding and laxity to reveal a crisp, elegantly contoured profile.

What Is A Neck Lift (Platysmaplasty)?

The neck is often the most uncompromising indicator of age. While the face may remain relatively smooth, the delicate skin of the neck and the underlying platysma muscle inevitably lose their elasticity, resulting in vertical banding, heavy tissue dropping beneath the chin, and the loss of a defined jawline.

A Neck Lift is a deeply restorative surgical procedure. It goes far beyond removing excess skin; it physically reconstructs the muscular hammock (the platysma) beneath the jaw, pulling it taut like a corset. This foundational repair creates a sharp, youthful 90-degree angle between the chin and the neck, restoring striking architectural definition.

What Concerns Does A Neck Lift Address?

What Concerns Does A Neck Lift Address?

  • 01Pronounced vertical muscle bands (platysmal banding) on the front of the neck
  • 02Severe skin laxity, often referred to as a 'turkey wattle' or 'crepey' neck
  • 03Loss of a sharp, defined jawline boundary
  • 04Accumulation of submental fat (double chin) resistant to weight loss
  • 05The 'blunted' angle where the chin meets the neck, causing a heavy profile

Liposuction vs. Surgical Neck Lift

For patients in their 20s or 30s who have a genetic 'double chin' but perfectly tight, highly elastic skin, micro-liposuction alone is often sufficient. The fat is removed, and the young skin snaps tightly to the jawbone.

However, if there is any loose skin or visible muscle banding, liposuction alone will make the neck look worse by deflating the tissue and leaving empty, hanging skin. In these cases, a structural Neck Lift is the only medical intervention capable of removing the excess skin and tightening the muscle to restore a crisp profile.

The Dr. Gandhi Difference

The Dr. Gandhi Difference

Amateur neck lifts rely on pulling the skin horizontally to flatten the neck, which inevitably creates a stretched, unnatural appearance and widened scars behind the ears.

Dr. Gandhi treats the neck as an intricate suspension system. He utilizes a midline corset platysmaplasty-making a tiny, hidden incision beneath the chin to physically stitch the separated neck muscles back together. He then anchors this muscular sling firmly to the deep mastoid fascia behind the ear. This advanced internal engineering ensures the skin simply rests naturally over a newly tightened foundation, delivering a flawless, tension-free result.

Dr. Gandhi's Insider Tip

"A beautiful face requires a beautiful pedestal. You cannot truly rejuvenate the lower face without addressing the neck. The magic lies in recreating that sharp, clean shadow right beneath the jawline."

Corset Platysmaplasty

A small, imperceptible incision is made under the chin. The two edges of the platysma muscle, which have separated over time, are securely sutured together down the center of the neck, functioning like an internal corset to eliminate vertical banding.

Submental Micro-Liposuction

Utilized concurrently with the lift to precisely remove targeted fat pads beneath the chin and along the jawline, ensuring the newly tightened muscle sits perfectly flush against the skeletal architecture.

Lower Facelift Integration

Because the neck and lower face are a continuous aesthetic unit, a neck lift is almost always performed in conjunction with a Deep Plane Facelift. This ensures a perfectly seamless transition of tension from the cheekbones down to the collarbone.

Where are the incisions hidden?

The incisions are brilliantly concealed. One tiny incision is hidden in the natural crease immediately beneath the chin. The lifting incisions trace the exact contours behind the ear and disappear into the lower hairline, rendering them virtually invisible once healed.

Will it feel tight to swallow or turn my head?

You will experience a profound sensation of tightness in the neck during the first week; this is a sign of a strong, secure muscular repair. This sensation slowly dissipates over several weeks as the tissues relax and adapt to their new, lifted position. It will not permanently affect your ability to swallow or move.

How long do the results of a neck lift last?

A structural neck lift resets your anatomical clock by approximately 10 to 15 years. While you will continue to age naturally, you will always look significantly younger and more defined than if you had never had the procedure.

Phase 1: Blood Pressure Management

Strict blood pressure control is paramount to prevent post-operative bleeding in the neck. You must cease all high-intensity cardiovascular workouts and avoid alcohol and high-sodium foods in the days leading up to surgery.

Phase 2: Medication Optimization

You must completely stop taking aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oils, vitamin E, and all herbal supplements two weeks prior, as these act as blood thinners and will cause excessive bruising.

Phase 3: The Recovery Wardrobe

You will not be able to pull clothing over your head for several weeks. Ensure you have a wardrobe of comfortable, button-down or zip-up shirts ready at home.

The First 72 Hours

Your neck and lower face will be wrapped in a supportive compression dressing. You must sleep on your back, elevated at a 45-degree angle, and avoid turning your head side-to-side; instead, turn your entire torso to look around. A soft-food diet is mandatory to limit chewing.

Days 4 to 10

The initial dressings are removed, and you may transition to a lighter, removable chin strap. Sutures are removed around day 7. Bruising may migrate down toward the collarbone due to gravity, which is completely normal.

Weeks 2 to 3 (Social Return)

By the end of the second week, most swelling and bruising have significantly faded. You can comfortably return to work and social activities. The neck will continue to soften, and the scars will begin to fade into imperceptible lines over the coming months.
