Neck Liposuction
A precise, minimally invasive contouring procedure designed to permanently eradicate submental fullness and reveal a razor-sharp, sculpted jawline.
What Is Submental (Neck) Liposuction?
The accumulation of fat beneath the chin (submental fullness or a double chin) is notoriously resistant to diet and cardiovascular exercise. Often dictated entirely by genetics, this isolated fat deposit blurs the distinction between the face and the neck, adding the illusion of significant weight and premature aging to an otherwise fit individual.
Neck Liposuction is a highly refined, rapid surgical solution. Through tiny, pinhole-sized access points, Dr. Gandhi utilizes ultra-fine micro-cannulas to permanently extract this stubborn fat. This meticulous sculpting reveals the underlying skeletal architecture, creating a crisp, youthful, 90-degree angle between the jaw and the neck.

What Concerns Does Neck Liposuction Address?
- 01A prominent double chin or submental fullness
- 02Lack of definition along the jawline (a blunted or heavy profile)
- 03The illusion of being overweight despite a healthy BMI
- 04A fleshy neck that obscures the natural shadow beneath the chin
- 05Genetically inherited fat deposits that do not respond to weight loss
Kybella Injections vs. Micro-Liposuction
Kybella is an injectable acid designed to slowly dissolve fat under the chin. While non-surgical, it requires multiple painful sessions, causes severe swelling for weeks, and yields highly unpredictable, often patchy results.
Submental Micro-Liposuction is considered the superior medical standard. It is a one-time, short procedure that guarantees complete, smooth removal of the fat pad. Recovery is often more predictable, and the surgeon has direct control over the final contour.

The Dr. Gandhi Difference
Removing fat from the neck is only half the equation; ensuring the skin shrink-wraps tightly back against the jawbone is the true mark of mastery. A poorly executed procedure leaves deflated, hanging skin.
Dr. Gandhi combines precise liposuction with targeted radiofrequency when needed. This approach supports smoother extraction and controlled deep dermal heating to stimulate collagen remodeling, helping the skin contract and tighten around the newly sculpted jawline.
Dr. Gandhi's Insider Tip
"A beautiful face is defined by its frame. When you remove the heavy fat from beneath the chin, it creates a crisp, dark shadow along the jawline. That shadow is the ultimate sign of youth and vitality."
— Dr. Giriraj Gandhi
Standalone Micro-Liposuction
Ideal for younger patients (20s to 40s) with excellent skin elasticity. Three pinhole incisions are made (one under the chin, one behind each earlobe). The fat is extracted, and the elastic skin retracts naturally against the jaw.
Combination with Chin Augmentation
Often, a double chin is exacerbated by a recessed chin. By simultaneously placing a custom chin implant and removing neck fat, Dr. Gandhi creates profound jawline definition.
Transition to a Neck Lift
If a patient has severe skin laxity or visible platysmal banding, liposuction alone is contraindicated. In these cases, Dr. Gandhi may recommend a structural neck lift to remove fat and tighten deeper tissues.
Will the fat ever grow back?
No. The fat cells removed during liposuction are permanently eliminated from the body. As long as you maintain a relatively stable, healthy weight, your new jawline profile should remain long term.
Are the incisions visible?
The access points used for micro-liposuction are the size of a pinhead. One is hidden in the natural crease under the chin, and two are hidden in the shadow directly behind the earlobes. They typically heal very discreetly.
Is it performed under general anesthesia?
Standalone neck liposuction is commonly performed under local anesthesia or light sedation, depending on treatment scope and patient preference.
Phase 1: Assessing Skin Quality
During your consultation, Dr. Gandhi will evaluate neck skin elasticity to confirm whether liposuction alone is appropriate or whether tightening procedures are needed.
Phase 2: Medical Baseline
Cease blood-thinning supplements and medications (as medically advised) at least two weeks before surgery to reduce bruising and swelling.
Phase 3: The Garment
You will need to wear a compressive chin strap immediately after the procedure. Plan your schedule to allow early rest while wearing this garment.
The First 72 Hours
You will wear a compressive chin and neck strap 24/7. Expect swelling and mild soreness. Sleep elevated on your back to support drainage.
Days 4 to 7
You may transition to wearing the compressive strap only at night. Mild bruising may migrate down the neck due to gravity. Most patients return to work during this period.
Weeks 4 and Beyond
Initial contour improvement is visible early, but final skin contraction and contour refinement continue over several months as deeper swelling resolves.
